Training at Alabaré and the power of taking part
We believe taking part in training and activities benefits everyone – residents, clients, volunteers and staff. The difference can be learning new skills, gaining confidence and improving wellbeing. For everyone, it is about personal development and positive progression.
Our Development Centres for adults with learning disabilities
Both our Development Centres are located in beautiful settings in Wiltshire. They each have an array of facilities, including workshops, greenhouses and classrooms. Our trainers are experienced in supporting everyone to take part in each activity they choose to their full potential. We have two sessions per day which you select a place on.
The courses and activities we run at our Development Centres at Barford and Old Sarum include a range of accredited NOCN courses, which we will support you to complete at a pace that suits you. We also run the universally recognised International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) will help build skills and confidence if you want to use a computer regularly.

In collaboration with national housing developers and social housing providers, we have several opportunities for former military service personnel to gain valuable experience and training in the construction industry while helping to build homes, one of which they can go on to live in.
If you are a veteran who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and you are interested in working in the construction industry then do get in touch.
Learn moreBoots on the Ground
We have a range of outdoor activities available to veterans and young people aimed at growing positive health and wellbeing. If you are living in north or south Wales, or in Wiltshire then we have a Boots on the Ground team near you offering activities to suit a wide range of interests including walks, music, wildlife, gardening and crafts. Each recognises the value of being outdoors with other people.
Burnbake Prison Art Project
Through this innovative programme we provide art materials for people in prison, enabling each to take part in, and benefit from, creative activities.
Art is important for offenders as the therapeutic properties are immeasurable, from problem-solving, relaxation, learning new skills, reflection, a method for expression and most important, a sense of achievement.
Find out moreI don’t usually go out much due to social anxiety, but Boots on the Ground allows me to meet new people in a comfortable environment. It helps me to stay active and learn a lot about things that interest me. It helps me to interact with people and pursue my interests, which will hopefully lead to employment soon.
