BIG Sleepers fill Salisbury Cathedral Cloisters

Big Sleepers at Salisbury Cathedral

Last night over 220 people filled the cloisters at Salisbury Cathedral and slept out on the cold flagstone floor to raise funds to help end homelessness.  These amazing Alabaré BIG Sleepers each took part to help raise awareness of the needs of homeless and vulnerable people in our communities.

What a night!  We feel incredibly blessed to have been joined by so many people who sold out this, our flagship annual event in Salisbury, collectively saying we want to end homelessness for vulnerable people in our community.  We were joined by young and older, first-time BIG Sleepers and those who join us every year, groups from schools, and those from local businesses – to you all, we say a huge THANK YOU!

All the funds raised from our BIG Sleep Salisbury Cathedral will go to help homeless people in our communities, meaning that facilities such as our Drop In centres can continue to provide vital support to those in need, and we can help more people into safety and away from street homeless or sofa surfing.

There were special awards during the evening for Ted Uren, Chris Lush and Colin Maskelyn who have each taken part in BIG Sleeps for Alabaré many times.  We are so grateful to them.

We were delighted to present an Alabaré Inspire Award to Spencer Mulholland to thank him for all his support – every year Spencer joins us and takes fantastic photos for us, and this year was no exception.

Once again it was wonderful to see a huge turn out from our local schools, including St Joseph’s, Wyvern St Edmunds, Bishop Wordsworth, Stonehenge, and Godolphin.  Thank you also to the teams from Sodexo, Rich Products, HSBC and Savills.

Fijian Assemblies of God GB Choir

We were joined again by the Fijian Assemblies of God GB Choir who once again shone, with singing and dancing so joyfully the whole audience joined them.  Our thanks to them, and the wonderful Gareth James for sharing their musical talents with us all.

Thank you to everyone who came together to make this event possible including Salisbury Cathedral, our event sponsors Fawcetts Chartered Accountants, the generous donations of food from McDonald’s (Tony Bennett Restaurants) and Wenzel’s the Bakers and many others.
