Sophie and Tyler’s Story
Sophie is excited – and a little sad. Tomorrow, she and her son, Tyler, will move into a new flat after living in our Parent and Baby Service for the last eighteen months.
Sophie moved in with her young baby following a breakdown in a relationship with her partner. Sophie was 17, and Tyler was just six months old.
Their room with Alabaré had a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a bed, a cot and some bedding, together with a small selection of toys for Tyler. It was their own space. Plus, Sophie had the support of the other mums in the house, and they looked out for each other and their children. The staff treated Tyler like he’s family – after all, they’d seen him grow from a baby to a toddler. Our parent and baby home has basically been the only home he’s ever known.
Alabaré created a lot of opportunities, including unforgettable sailing trips and days out to amusement parks, which Sophie wouldn’t have been able to afford by herself. Over time, Sophie has become more independent, including leaving Tyler in others’ care for the first time. She’s also in a much better place now and has even won an Alabaré Inspire Award. Although it took eight months, Sophie finally got a flat for the two of them. It’s a brave new start, but she’s also loved her time with Alabaré. She’s even able to leave some toys for the other children. And, like previous clients, she knows she’ll be back to visit.
