Alabaré honours colleague compassion on World Humanitarian Day
It's a global moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible work of humanitarians everywhere, including everyone here at Alabaré.
This World Humanitarian Day (Tuesday, 19 August 2025) Alabaré is recognising and celebrating the courage, compassion, and commitment of humanitarians across the globe, including our own colleagues.
The name Alabaré means “I will praise” in Spanish and “someone who is merciful and supports good causes” in the West African language of Yoruba.
Those meanings reflect the charity’s commitment to uplifting those who are overlooked or in need.
Whether it’s providing a safe place to call home through our homelessness services, support for veterans, young people, and those with learning disabilities and mental health challenges, or if it’s simply being a listening ear, every act of kindness matters.
In a world facing uncertainty and challenge, our teams continue to be bold, confident, and dynamic in their mission to support vulnerable people.
Alabaré’s Senior Chaplain and Spirituality Advisor, Gill Turner-Callis, has shared a message to colleagues and other humanitarian workers:
“In a time of growing uncertainty, both nationally and globally, your commitment to supporting those in crisis is more vital than ever. Whether you’re working directly with clients, supporting behind the scenes, or advocating for change, your contribution is part of something deeply meaningful.
“Alabaré’s values of respect, honesty, care, and compassion are not just words. They are the way we show our humanitarian spirit every day. You show respect in the face of challenge, honesty in conflict, compassion in adversity, and care in adapting to ever-changing needs.
“Today on World Humanitarian Day, we thank you for the difference you make.”
