Volunteers – the lifeblood of Alabaré
Through the generosity, kindness, and dedication of our volunteer community we can support homeless adults, young people, veterans, and those with learning disabilities - helping them to rebuild their lives and lead a fulfilling life.

Volunteers – The lifeblood of Alabaré
Our volunteers take on a variety of roles, from offering companionship and practical support in our homes to sharing skills like gardening, cooking, or crafts. Others lend their expertise in our charity shops, provide spiritual care, or help run events and fundraising activities, they make a huge difference to the wellbeing of those we support. Veterans also play a vital role, supporting fellow ex-service personnel through projects like Boots on the Ground. Meanwhile, our volunteer Trustees and ambassadors help shape the future of our charity, ensuring we continue to grow and thrive.
But volunteering isn’t just about giving – it’s also about gaining. Many of our volunteers say they’ve developed new skills, built friendships and found a deep sense of purpose in their work with us. We caught up with Bassam, who has thrown himself into volunteering following the sad passing of his wife last year. From attending the learning disabilities Funky Club, cooking Lebanese food with clients, to arranging a fundraiser at his place of work which raised over £700 in four hours.
Bassam says, “Alabaré is a caring and compassionate charity helping some of the most challenged people. Volunteering provides me with a window to observe the challenges that homelessness creates and how the staff and volunteers work hard to make life a little easier. Volunteering gives me a great deal of personal sense of purpose. I strongly encourage everyone to step forward and volunteer.”
Alison a regular volunteer says, “As a divorcee I know and understand how quickly a life can be completely turned upside down, treading a path you never thought you would be on. My drive home from Wilton Emporium is always with a smile on my face and a warm sense of achievement and satisfaction that I may have just have helped a few people along the way during my day.”
This year Alison’s son will also run the London Marathon in our name as together they embrace the charity as a whole.
