ALABARÉ Calls on Supporters to Provide ‘A Room with a View’ for People at Risk of Homelessness

ALABARÉ is asking for support with our latest campaign, Room with a View, ensuring more people can wake up in a place of safety.
The Government’s most recent homelessness snapshot found that almost 4,800 people are sleeping rough on any given night, with nearly 210,000 people experiencing so-called hidden homelessness.
This sees people bedding down in unsuitable locations like cars, tents, and sheds, as well as sofa surfing with friends and family, which can lead to strained relationships.
The homelessness crisis is causing an upturn in demand for ALABARÉ’s services; however, care within our supported living accommodation is limited, and the charity is calling on the community to support those who need a helping hand today.
The Room with a View campaign aims to provide a more positive outlook for those at risk of homelessness by providing homes, restoring hearts, and empowering minds.
Something as simple as a room to give them a space of their own, a safe and secure place to lay their head, and a chance to close the door on their fears of being on the streets can be a turning point in their journey towards a fulfilling future and independent living.
How can you help?
We’re urging supporters to make a regular donation to the charity’s services for single homeless adults, veterans, or young people, including care leavers and parents and their newborns.
A monthly contribution of £21 can help to provide emergency accommodation and drop-in facilities in Salisbury and Chippenham for people sleeping rough, along with essentials such as toiletries, bedding and furniture to help them settle into properties in further locations including Devizes, Trowbridge, Andover, Gosport, Plymouth, Bristol, Gloucester, South Wales and North Wales.
It could also go towards activities to boost physical and mental health, provide training and education opportunities, and support them with practical help like cooking, financial budgeting, accessing a bank account, interview skills and CV building.
Sleeping Rough and Living in Constant Fear
Tracy came into ALABARÉ’s services in Chippenham after ending up on the streets and describes how it left her feeling afraid, alone and unseen:
“Sleeping rough means literally wearing all your clothes, including your boots, because if you don’t, you’ll wake up and find even those are gone. Eventually, I went to the woods to hide away. It’s scary up there anyway, but it was less scary than being around other people, to be honest. I’d return to find my tent gone and everything with it. It was a nightmare.
“Eventually, I started speaking to the rough sleeper team, and I engaged with the right people, I suppose. And then, thank the Lord, I ended up here in ALABARÉ’s emergency accommodation.”
Sleeping rough can be incredibly dangerous to a person’s health, too, with no shelter from the elements in the height of summer and the depths of winter, the risk of dehydration or malnutrition.
Over 1,600 people died while experiencing homelessness in the UK, according to figures from 2025.

“We’re seeing an ever-increasing demand for ALABARÉ’s services, along with a rising level of complex needs, so the public’s support is as vital as ever to ensure we’re here to help.”
ALABARÉ needs to raise £1.7 million a year to maintain the care provided to more than 3,200 clients across all of the charity’s services.
