Promoting Acceptance: Alabaré’s Pride Month Commitment to Diversity
As Pride Month draws to a close, Alabaré has been celebrating diversity and inclusivity within our charity, while reaffirming our commitment to continuous improvement.
The theme of 2025’s Pride Month events across the UK has been centred around ‘social change’ and recognising contributions that LGBTQIA+ people make to the world around us.
Sharing stories of resilience, authenticity and self-discovery
On Thursday, 26 June, Alabaré colleagues gathered at our head office in Salisbury to hear from two team members who bravely shared their lived experiences of the community.
Ash works within our mental health service and was assigned female at birth. They have been transitioning to male over the last eight years, while Gemma is a gay mother of two who leads our Young People Wellbeing service.
They both spoke candidly of the difficulties they’ve faced individually and shared some actions that anyone can do to grow acceptance, challenge abusive behaviour and foster inclusivity.
A Pride Month BBQ has also been held at the Somewhere Safe to Go drop-in service at Salisbury’s Alabaré Place.
This was a chance for LGBTQIA+ residents in our supported living homes to share ideas with each other and Alabaré colleagues on celebrating our differences.
Making people feel safe and heard
Throughout Alabaré, we aim to reflect personal choices and circumstances in the support that’s offered, and we are open to listening to the needs of clients and our staff to normalise and celebrate diversity.
We also seek to create a workplace culture where colleagues feel safe to live authentically, which fits within Alabaré’s values of care, compassion, honesty and respect.
