Veteran services: Mark’s story

Mark was in the process of checking out from his accommodation and walking to his car, where he was going to be sleeping for the foreseeable future when we called.
Mark came to Alabaré Homes for Veterans as he sadly found himself homeless after leaving the Army. Through the veteran services, Op FORTITUDE, he had been placed in temporary accommodation for a couple of nights while going through the application process. He was in the process of checking out from his accommodation when we called.
The impact of veteran services
Mark had found us through an online search of “veteran housing”. Once the Alabaré veteran services team had managed to contact Mark to carry out a telephone assessment and have a short conversation with him, it was decided that it was a priority to get Mark into one of our Bristol veteran homes.
Since joining our veteran services a few weeks ago, Mark has enjoyed having a stable, supportive roof over his head. The team have been able to increase his benefit payments which has been helpful in developing local connections to increase Mark’s stability.
Since joining, we are enormously pleased that Mark has secured a very good job, which is relevant to the degree he had obtained prior to joining the Army. Mark plans to stay with Alabaré Homes for Veterans for a couple more months whilst he organises his finances, and then he hopes to move once again into his own accommodation.
