Employability coaching: Harry’s story
Part of our young people service is the opportunity for clients to take part in employability coaching.

When Harry first moved into Sarum House, he was attending Andover College studying bricklaying.
He left college due to an altercation with his teacher over the lack of support that he felt he was receiving for his dyslexia. This sadly meant he was unable to complete a CSCS course, affecting his wellbeing and employability.
First steps towards employability
Harry’s Alabaré Employability Coach, Amy, successfully referred him to Hampshire County Council Construction Skills Fund. Harry seized the opportunity he had been given by spending most of his downtime studying for the test. Harry passed the health and safety aspect of the exam, but didn’t achieve a pass mark in the CSCS exam. He resat, but sadly again didn’t pass.
Perseverance to succeed
Harry’s Alabaré Employability Coach worked closely with him to help Harry apply again. He has since been able to secure additional support with his dyslexia in class to help him to pass the course.
Homes and employability training for young people
At Alabaré we have two foyers for young people, one in Andover and one covering Wiltshire. A foyer is a service which integrates both accommodation and learning opportunities. Our foyer teams settle young people into our homes and work with them to create a support plan based on their individual needs and goals. We will work alongside other agencies who are helping them as well. Our in-house training opportunities will help build their confidence and offer practical support to improve their employability skills and successfully manage their own home in the future.
If you are a young person at risk of homelessness, then we may be able to help. Read more about our young people services.
