Greenwich Hospital Awards £200,000 to ALABARÉ to Provide a Lifeline for Homeless Veterans
We're delighted to have been awarded a grant from Greenwich Hospital to support for Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans.
ALABARÉ is delighted to have been awarded £200,000 from Greenwich Hospital to continue our work in breaking the cycle of homelessness, for Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans.
This funding will strengthen supported living accommodation across our veterans’ homes in the South West of England and across Wales.
Providing Homes: ALABARÉ’s Homes for Veterans network
ALABARÉ’s 30 Homes for Veterans provide safety, stability and person-centred, trauma-informed support for former military personnel experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis.
Support is based in Salisbury, Gosport, Gloucester, and Plymouth, as well as in North and South Wales, focused on geographical areas with a higher proportion of veterans, and therefore, a greater need for help for those at risk of homelessness.
Restoring Hearts: Boots on the Ground
The partnership with Greenwich Hospital will deepen the delivery of our nature-based wellbeing programme, Boots on the Ground, which supports mental health, peer connection, and emotional recovery through physical, often outdoor activities.
Over two-thirds of veterans who engage in the programme report an improvement in both their mental and physical wellbeing.
Empowering Minds: Employability Pathways
The grant also complements our employability work, including the award-winning Veterans’ Self Build Scheme and vocational programmes that foster confidence and long-term independence.
For every veteran who participates, 97% move into employment, as well as securing a home that they helped build.
Why This Matters
- Up to 7,500 veterans across the UK are considered homeless or sleeping rough.
- 2,270 veteran households were recorded as homeless or at risk of homelessness in England alone, according to the most recent Government figures
- We have seen a 122% increase in veterans’ referrals to ALABARÉ in the last financial year
Deirdre Mills, Director at Greenwich Hospital, said:
“Greenwich Hospital is delighted to support ALABARÉ as they deliver this vital housing and support programme, helping some of the most vulnerable Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans rebuild their wellbeing and futures beyond service life.”
Andrew Lord MBE, Chief Executive of ALABARÉ, said:
“This significant grant strengthens our commitment to providing homes, restoring hearts, and empowering minds. With Greenwich Hospital’s support, we can extend trauma-informed care, enhance wellbeing, and offer life-changing pathways to Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans rebuilding their futures.”
