Walk for Lent – Every Step Brings Hope

Anyone can join in our Walk for Lent, whatever your age. You can walk alone or join others from your church or community, and you can even bring the dog!

walk for lent and reflect on mental ill health and homelessness

This Lent, we’re encouraging you to take on a challenge that changes lives. Walk for Lent over 40 days and help ALABARÉ provide vital support for people facing homelessness or mental health struggles.

Participants commit to walking either a mile a day for 40 days or perhaps over several days, and either pay a donation themselves each day or seek sponsorship. There is no participation fee, and there is no obligation to fundraise; however, any funds raised will be very welcome.

This Lent, we're encouraging you to walk for lent and changes lives.

ALABARÉ was founded by a worshipping community in Salisbury 32 years ago to support one man, Bob.

Today, every single night of the year, ALABARÉ provides homes for over 320 people across the South West of England and across Wales. Our teams work within our core values of care, compassion, honesty and respect, established from our vision ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’

We can only do this through the incredible support we receive from individuals, local communities, churches and schools.

Homelessness and poor mental health often go hand in hand.

Losing your home can lead to anxiety, depression, and isolation. Likewise, untreated mental health conditions can make it harder to keep a job or maintain housing. It’s a cycle that traps thousands of people, and together, we can break it.

By joining our Walk for Lent challenge, you’ll raise funds that provide:

  • Safe accommodation for those with nowhere else to turn.
  • Specialist mental health support to help people rebuild confidence and stability.
  • Pathways to independence, giving hope for a brighter future.

How it works:

  • Walk for Lent and cover 40 miles between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday (18 February – 5 April 2026).
  • Ask friends and family to sponsor your journey.
  • Share your progress and inspire others to take part.

Reasons to take part:

  • Turn Lent into a time of reflection and action, a powerful way to live out the values of compassion and generosity.
  • Boost Your Own Wellbeing. Step outdoors and boost your own mental health by getting outside as spring begins to blossom
  • Feel good by doing good. Your efforts fund life-changing services, safe accommodation, mental health support, and pathways to independence. Every pound raised makes a real difference.

👉 Sign up today and make this Lent a season of compassion and change.
