With the summer holidays in full swing, we're inviting families looking for a cheap and fun day out to explore our charity shops.

With the summer holidays in full swing, we’re inviting families looking for a cheap and fun day out to explore its charity shops.

Our two retail stores on Earls Court Road in Amesbury and off the A36 Warminster Road in Wilton, are full of weird and wonderful pre-loved treasures and seasonal pieces.

What can you get from ALABARÉ charity shops?

Stock has been generously donated to ALABARÉ for sale, helping to reduce waste, recycle and repurpose items, and directly support our work.

There are plenty of items for all tastes and interests, providing activities for the home and garden, and even for planning life events.

A large stock of fiction books could help you find your next sunbed-ready holiday read for a far lower price than trawling the airport bookshop, while for children, there are options to help achieve the popular summer holiday reading challenges.

For young ones, you could also find dress-up items, a huge range of board games and puzzles, outdoor toys and crafting materials to fill the time off school with new activities.

One unique element of the Wilton store is our bridal boutique, which offers a selection of wedding dresses and suits available to try on and purchase immediately.

While some of the gowns are pre-loved, the vast majority are brand new, having been donated from stores which have either closed or chosen to pass on excess stock to support a good cause.

The weird and the wonderful

The shops have several quirky pieces too, including a lawnmower fashioned from a bicycle (pictured here) and a meat grinder-inspired lamp.

Earlier this year, an ALABARÉ customer purchased a 90-year-old camera for £10 that sparked a modern-day mystery as it contained film that had been undeveloped for over half a century.

Nic Dunford, Principal Lead for Individual Giving, Legacies and Retail, said:

“There’s so much to explore at both the Wilton and Amesbury Emporium, and during the school holidays, we’d love to welcome families for a look around and to pick up some items to make the summer more fun!

“The shops are an important way of bringing people closer to ALABARÉ too, as they are often the first point of contact with us. Our colleagues and volunteers are able to share more information about our work across Wiltshire and the South West, to show shoppers how they’re making a difference. Every purchase made really helps to break the cycle of homelessness, and we’re grateful for the community’s support of the stores over many years.”

Donations welcomed

We welcome donations to both locations. The Wilton Emporium accepts items each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, while the Amesbury store can take donations on any morning, on alternate weeks, with further details on the shop’s Facebook page.

Supporters are asked to limit donations to two bags per person to ensure our volunteers have the space to sort and store them.

Where does the money raised go?

84 pence in every pound of all donations and purchases made goes straight into efforts to provide homes, restore hearts, and empower minds for more than 2,500 people a year who are supported by ALABARÉ.
