A group of ex-Armed Forces personnel participating in the second Alabaré Veterans’ Self-Build Scheme that helps to provide housing for veterans celebrated their graduation on the 12th December at Drummond Park.
“This program has saved my life, I was living in the woods at my lowest ebb and now I am about to move into my house and start work. It has been really hard but amazing.”
As a charity committed to ending homelessness, we are alarmed by the Home Secretary’s statement in which she suggests that being homeless is a lifestyle choice.
Alabaré veterans clients and team feature on BBC1 in Countryfile’s Remembrance special programme, which comes from Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall.
Our first veteran self-builder and his family have moved into their new home, along with two local families who were in housing need.
The scheme, which was completed in December 2020 saw us working in partnership Stonewater Housing along with Herefordshire Council and local contractor J Harper & Sons Ltd. The 19-home scheme now provides a safe and secure place to call home for up to nine veterans and their families.
