It is with great sadness to have today (Saturday, 21 February 2026) learned of the passing of Brigadier Simon Firth CBE.

Brigadier Simon Firth was both a distinguished military leader and one of ALABARÉ’s most committed supporters for more than 30 years – serving as an Ambassador, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and later as Patron.

Widely regarded as charismatic and determined – a man who “gets things done,” earning him untold respect with all who met him – most notably everyone here at ALABARÉ. He enjoyed a distinguished Army career, serving in the Gloucestershire Regiment, with tours of Germany, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Canada, and during the First Gulf War.

A proud veteran – his commitment to former service personnel was unwavering. Simon played a pivotal role in driving forward initiatives dedicated to ex‑service personnel struggling to adapt to civilian life, particularly those facing homelessness, trauma, and addiction.

It was through Brigadier Simon Firth’s leadership that ALABARÉ established its Homes for Veterans in Gloucester – a place close to his heart given his time served with the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was also responsible for recruiting multiple Ambassadors and Patrons to further champion ALABARÉ’s cause.

Andrew Lord, Chief Executive of ALABARÉ, paid tribute:

“Simon was a wonderful supporter and friend to ALABARÉ for 30 years. He made a huge contribution, bringing energy, encouragement and leading from the front. We will miss him.”

Brigadier Simon Firth leaves an enduring legacy. His commitment, compassion, and unwavering belief that no veteran should be left behind transformed countless lives and helped shape ALABARÉ’s mission into what it is today.

Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

His life of service will continue to inspire ALABARÉ for many years to come.
