Below are some steps to help you with the initial application, the shortlisting, face-to-face interviews, assessments, background checks, and all the other elements crucial to hiring the right candidate. We endeavour to make the onboarding experience as smooth as possible and will keep you updated every step of the way. Our approach to recruitment and selection is competency-based, so please ensure your application matches the relevant person specification on the Job Description. Selecting the right people is essential as our clients require stability, and therefore, making the right recruitment decisions is fundamental to the support provided.
On the Application Form, you will be asked to outline your skills, knowledge, and experience in relation to the person specification of the job description. You should focus on providing evidence, through specific examples and experience, which demonstrates your suitability for the role you are applying for. We value transferable skills and encourage applicants who do not have direct experience.
Your application is your opportunity to show us what makes you a suitable candidate for the charity jobs in question. Please read the person specification and job description carefully to make sure you demonstrate, in your application, how your skills, knowledge, experience and values match the job description. It may be worth including details of experiences or achievements outside of a work context if they seem relevant to the job description.
If you are interested in a job share, please state this clearly on your application form. Also you must have the right to live and work in the UK to join Alabaré.
Shortlisting is based on candidates’ personal statements and work experience. If invited for an interview, you will be contacted by the Hiring Manager who will provide details of the interview date and what will be involved on the day. Our approach to recruitment and selection is competency-based, which is based on the job descriptions.
Depending on the charity jobs role applied for, we use a variety of work-based exercises and practical activities, like group work, role play or presentations. This approach allows candidates to demonstrate their suitability in a variety of different ways, whilst helping us to identify the most suitable person for the post. After the interview, you will be contacted by the hiring manager or a member of the HR team with the outcome.
If you are offered a role, you will be contacted by the HR Team with a conditional offer letter and information on the next steps. All offers are subject to receiving two satisfactory references and, where applicable, an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Additionally, in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, all staff are required to provide documentation to Alabaré to confirm their legal right to work in the UK.
The disclosure of criminal convictions will not necessarily exclude you from appointment, when, for example, it is a less serious offence, committed sometime ago, or as a juvenile. However, if you fail to declare any conviction, this may disqualify you from the appointment or result in dismissal if discovered subsequently. If you would like to discuss whether a conviction would possibly exclude you from being considered for a post, please contact the HR Department on 01722 344474. They will be happy to give you confidential advice.
ALABARÉ is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
