It’s so good to see two positive pathways projects working together, providing activities to support veterans’ mental health.
ALABARÉ was founded out of the simple act of providing a place of safety for one homeless man, Bob.
For over 35 years, ALABARÉ has grown as a charity for homeless people or at risk of homelessness, supporting more than 40,000 people in over 80 homes across the South West of England and Wales.
Founded in faith and compassion, we go beyond ending homelessness – we break its cycle. We believe everyone deserves not just shelter, but healing, purpose, and community.
Our dedicated team of colleagues and volunteers tackle root causes such as trauma, poverty, and isolation, empowering people to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Together, we provide homes, restore hearts, and empower minds.

OUR VISION
We welcome people of all faiths and none to our homes, and to be part of the ALABARÉ team. We believe that by working together we will achieve our vision of a society where everyone has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to break the cycle of homelessness. We will do this by providing homes, restoring hearts and empowering minds.
Homes, Hearts and Minds is ALABARÉ’s commitment to walk alongside those in need with understanding, care, compassion, respect and honesty – restoring dignity, purpose, and belonging.
OUR VALUES
Our values, shaped by our Christian ethos and shared by all, are at the core of what we do and how we do it. Respect, Honesty, Care and Compassion define our working culture and shape our approach to breaking the cycle of homelessness.
OUR VALUES
Respect
We will demonstrate and expect a certain level of behaviour, with each other andin our homes and communities.
Honesty
We will celebrate our successes and acknowledge our weaknesses through clear public relations, good reflective practice and excellent support work.
Care
We will take a holistic approach to care that considers the complete wellbeing of clients and staff, including the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects.
Compassion
We will treat all others in the way we want to be treated ourselves.
PROVIDING HOMES
We offer more than shelter. We give people a safe, stable place to rebuild their lives.
RESTORING HEARTS
Through emotional and pastoral care, we help individuals rediscover their worth and dignity.
EMPOWERING MINDS
We support mental health and personal growth and provide training and wellbeing programmes that open doors to a brighter future.
Why Homes, Hearts, Minds?
At ALABARÉ, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to thrive, not just survive. As a charity for homeless communities, our approach is simple: before someone can focus on things like relationships, confidence, or personal growth, they need the basics – a safe place to sleep, food to eat, and a sense of security.
Homelessness strips away that foundation. When you don’t know where you’ll be sleeping tonight, it’s almost impossible to think about getting a job, reconnecting with family, or planning for the future.
That’s where our focus on Homes, Hearts, Minds comes in.
We don’t just offer a roof over someone’s head; we walk alongside them as they rebuild their lives. It’s about dignity, hope, and believing that change is possible.

Our aim is that by March 2030, ALABARÉ will be the preferred provider of safe, high-quality short-term homes and support as a charity for homeless and vulnerable people in need in the South West of England and Wales.
This year, ALABARÉ has made significant progress despite ongoing financial pressures across the charity sector. In 2024/25, we supported 3,272 individuals – a 12.3% increase on the previous year. Each of these lives represents a story of hope, dignity, and transformation.

Another very successful year for ALABARÉ. A year where we have continued to deliver vital support to 2,894 vulnerable and homeless people, and, through the securing of new funding contracts, created foundations as a charity for homeless people, that we may continue for the next few years.

Our year has seen some wonderful highlights, most significantly for people across our charity who have reached personal goals and moved on to new futures that they have forged from the support we have been able to give them.
As we look back over the last year, the recurring theme is how a charity for homeless service users, staff and supporters coped with the enormous challenges of Covid. Those challenges were supporting both service users and staff when they fell unwell with Covid. We strived to provide a safe place to live and work despite the disruption caused to service delivery, fundraising events and the charity’s general operation. It was a difficult time, and we are incredibly grateful for the commitment and support of all.
As you read this review, you will hear the voices of some of the hundreds of clients, that homeless charities support each year.

An exceptional year! I don’t think anyone reading this today could argue that 2019/20 has not been an exceptional year. The arrival of Coronavirus has touched every person’s life and every inch of our charity.
The last year has been a pivotal one for our charity. All around ALABARÉ, vulnerable lives have been changed thanks to the passion and dedication of our inspirational staff and volunteers.
