National Volunteers Week!

Alabaré is urging local residents to get behind National Volunteers' Week (1-12 June) and donate their precious time and skills to help the life-changing charity thrive during it's 25th anniversary year and beyond.

Founded by local husband and wife team John and Alecia Proctor and the Wiltshire based Alabaré Christian Community, Alabaré has grown from humble roots, supporting one homeless man in a local Wilton home, to a charity with over 500 dedicated staff and volunteers and services that include a state of the art Homeless Drop In Centre in the heart of Salisbury, accommodation and support for young people leaving care, Development Centres for people with Learning Difficulties in Barford St Martin and at Old Sarum and specialist homes across the South West of England and Wales for Veterans who struggle to adapt to life in the civilian world.

But Volunteer Co-Ordinator for the charity, Jo King, is quick to point out that they couldn’t continue their transformative work without the generous support from the local community,

“We owe so much to the unwavering commitment of countless supporters and volunteers who have been part of our amazing journey.  Our 25th anniversary is not only a celebration of the work we do but also of the amazing people who have helped us over the years – without them we wouldn’t of been able to help the nearly 3,000 people who came to us last year, needing support, care and hope for the future.

“Amazingly this year, we have already welcomed an additional 100 volunteers, with a further 29 currently undergoing training.  This is a significant increase on this time last year where we worked with just over 200 volunteers at the same point in the year.  We’re hoping that next year, we’ll have increased that number even more… could you help?”

Chief Executive, Andrew Lord continues,

“Our successes over the years have been largely based on the incredible support of our local communities and the partnerships that we have built.  It’s not just about money.  There are so many ways that people can get involved during this year’s #VolunteerWeek and  I really would encourage people to take a look at our website volunteering pageto find out more about what we do and join us so that the next 25 years will be even more successful.“
