Personal Reflections on the Falklands War
16 Mar 2017
Alabare Wiltshire Ambassadors invite you to Personal Reflections from the War and its Aftermath, in this the 35th Anniversary of the Falklands War. The evening will include an Introduction by Commodore Richard Lord CBE RN, Reflections by Sara Jones CBE and Commodore Jamie Miller CBE RN (HMS Coventry Survivor). Proceeds from the event will go towards Alabare's work, and The Venerable Stephen Robbins CB will link to how the charity supports those in need.
Despite the bravest defence, HMS Coventry (Captain David Hart Dyke CBE, LVO, RN) was hit twice by 1,000 lb bombs on her port side. She capsized within 20 minutes, sank, and 19 crew died and a further 30 were injured.
Lieutenant Colonel Herbert “H” Jones VC, OBE, Commanding Officer 2 PARA, was severely wounded in a solo charge against an Argentine position on Darwin Hill and subsequently died of his wounds when Darwin Hill was secured but before he could be evacuated.
The event is kindly sponsored by Our Wilton, Chemring Countermeasures and Mark Allen Group.
The venue is the fully refurbished St Johns Place in Lower Bemerton, with local parking opposite.
Tickets are £10 per person - book online here
